Has been extended until May 3, 2015 the exhibition entitled “for the sake of peace – The long way towards Europe” organised in Palazzo Ducale “sala dello scrutinio” during the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (July 1 – December 31, 2014).
The exhibition, which focuses on the theme of peace as a supreme value of European culture, collects the valuable documentary heritage from the Archivio di Stato di Venezia, cartographic images and peace treaties between European powers since the peace of Bologna in 1529 to the Declaration on human rights enacted in 1789. The succession of events documented suggests a progressive and growing awareness on the part of European leaders who can see the need to use policy tools to avoid the damages of the increasingly destructive wars, especially for the civilian populations in Europe.

The exhibition is divided into four sections with more than seventy precious documents and images running through three centuries of history of European diplomacy, marked by conflicts, alliances and revolutions, punctuated by famous treaties like the one that ended the thirty years war or those who established the end of the wars of the Spanish succession, Austrian and Polish. The project has involved some of the most important Italian and European cultural realities operating in Venice: from the German Center of Venetian Studies, sponsored by the German Ministry of culture Pro Helvetia in the Middle, with the support of the Consulate General of Switzerland in Milan; Romanian Institute of culture and Humanities Research at the University of Warwick to Carlos Amberes Foundationand the Cervantes Institute.
