Feast of the Redeemer
The Feast of the Redeemer is certainly the most Venetian among the festivities: the religious aspect linked to the construction of the Church of the Redeemer, as an Ex Voto for the liberation of the city from the plague of 1575-1577, scourge that provoked the death of more than a third of the population of the city in just two years, coexists with the spectacular and goliardic, thanks to the incredible fireworks that , on Saturday night, attracts thousands of visitors who jostle on the banks adjacent to the basin of San Marco and in the boats that are settled from the first afternoon between the island of Giudecca and St. Mark's Square.
SATURDAY, July 15
Opening of the votive Bridge of boats set up on the Giudecca canal that connects the Zattere with the Church of the Redeemer, thus permitting the pedestrian attainment of the church.
Presentation of the crews of rowing regattas in Veneto
Inaugurates the celebrations the blessing of the Patriarch of Venice, which takes place on the steps of the Redeemer at the moment of the opening of the bridge, while the crowd begins its procession towards the Giudecca.
It follows the first Eucharistic celebration of 19.30, followed by the one of the 0.30 and the eight on Sundays.
