Museum Mariano Fortuny Y Mandrazo

After two years the Palazzo finally reopens which in Venice was the home and atelier of Mariano Fortuny Y Madrazo.

The space hosts a rich collection of works that testify to the different fields of investigation in which Fortuny ventured: paintings, photographs, drawings, engravings, sculptures, technical and furnishing lamps, theatrical models, printed fabrics and dresses, from the famous Delphos (the pleated silk dress that makes him famous all over the world) to costumes for the stage. It still bears witness to the brilliant creative ability of this artist between reworking, experimentation and innovation and of his presence on the international intellectual and artistic scene at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

To cite a few examples, Fortuny 1900 creates some sets and costumes for the world premiere of Tristan and Isolde at the Scala in Milan. At the same time, the idea of ​​the "Dome" began to take shape, that is the lighting system that will free the theatrical setting from traditional settings through the use of indirect and diffused light. In 1919 in Venice, on the Giudecca, he founded the factory for the industrial production of his cotton fabrics and opened boutiques in the major European capitals. In the meantime, he decorates and illuminates palaces and museums throughout Europe, receiving awards and honorary titles. There are other inventions from the Thirties: from photographic printing paper to “Tempera Fortuny” colors and the lighting techniques on the great Venetian pictorial cycles of Tintoretto in San Rocco and Carpaccio in San Giorgio.

The museum is open from 09 March 2022 to 30 April 2022. It is closed on Tuesdays. The cost of the full entrance ticket is 10 euros.
