Venice Carnival 2017
Starting from 11 February until the end of the month Venice will host one of the most beautiful masquerades feast in the world: Venice Carnival 2017. This will be the main attraction for thousands of tourists who crowd the streets and squares of the whole city, dressed with masks and costumes, from the simplest to the most magnificent precious and sumptuous, pride of Venetian craftsmanship.
Throughout the city there will be demonstrations, parades and costume parties that will continue at night in the sumptuous Venetian palaces where you can breathe an eighteenth-century atmosphere from Vanity Fair, this year's theme!
But the nerve center of the feast will be, as always, Piazza San Marco. Here, on 19 February will be held the traditional and highly anticipated “volo dell'angelo”, which officially opens the Carnival with the "flight" from St Mark's bell tower of a pretty girl winner Venetian Festa delle Marie in 2016, the beauty contest that recalls the tribute of jewels dogali that the Doge offered as dowry each year to twelve beautiful and humble maidens.
Sunday, February 12, as usual, will depart from Punta della Dogana crossing the Grand Canal up to the popular Cannaregio canal the water parade held by Rowing Venetian Associations, between music, animation and tastings of cicheti, Venetian specialities, fritole and galani.
Will close the festivities the famous and highly anticipated "Svolo de L'Aquila" from St Mark's campanile: just a few days before the event will be unveiled the name of the character trhat will play the Eagle 2017.
